A number of years ago a 12-year old Canadian girl, Severn Suzuki, spoke to the U.N. Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro about the global environment. If you haven't seen this amazing speech by a young person determined to do something, this is a must-watch! In a longer movie (59 min.) on Google a young adult Severn Suzuki, now an activist and ethnobiologist, gives a speech on local and global water issues. |

This summer I visited Jane Krauss's summer PBL class at the University of Oregon (she is one of the authors of the new PBL book, just above this entry). During that class we were linked to a teacher from Missouri, Mr. Terry Smith, who teaches 4th grade and does just about everything through PBL. We were all quite excited with his web links to many different types of projects, so, with Terry's permission, I'd like to share those with you. |

Action for Nature International Young Eco-Hero Awards. This award of $500 recognizes the accomplishments of young people ages 8-16 for personal action which has significantly improved the environment. Site shows previous winners and gives guidelines for applying. Deadline for application: February 28, 2009. |
