Curriculum & Instruction is a graduate program (not a department) which draws from the faculty in both Elementary Education (EDEL) and Secondary Education (EDSEC). These graduate faculty members serve Curriculum & Instruction in four areas of professional commitment:
- Delivery of exemplary instruction to graduate students.
- Production, interpretation, and dissemination of sound and useful research, scholarship.
- Provision of leadership, collaboration, and service within the profession.
- Promotion, understanding, and celebration of diversity.

These programs have a vision of preparing knowledgeable, ethical, caring decision makers who demonstrate student learning outcomes aligned with the College of Education's Conceptual Framework standards and dispositions in the following areas:
KNOWLEDGE
Curriculum: Demonstrate knowledge of the foundations of curriculum, curriculum principles, and contemporary issues related to curriculum. Standard 1
Research and Scholarship: Demonstrate knowledge of research methodology.
Content Area of Specialization: Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum and instruction as related to the student's professional goals. Standards 5 & 6
SKILLS
Teaching and Learning: Demonstrate the ability to create an environment for effective teaching and learning. Standard 9; Disposition 3
Critical Thinking: Demonstrate the ability to interpret information, think critically, analyze and solve problems, make complex decisions, and evaluate actions. Standard 10; Disposition 4
Communication: Demonstrate effective use of a variety of communication skills and modalities. Standard 11
