Application and Admission Procedures

1. Applying for admission into a degree program.
To obtain a Master's degree, a person must apply for and be admitted into a degree program. Once admitted, a faculty advisor is assigned.

Requirements for Admission to the Master's Degree Program in Special Education

Applicants for admission to the master's degree program will provide evidence of the following:

1. Potential for Scholarly Performance
• Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better in the last two years
  (based on 4.0 scale).
• PPST scores at or above KSU minimum:
  Reading 173; Writing 172; Math 174

2. Successful teaching and/or other relevant experience
(submit student teaching reports, letter of recommendation, teaching evaluations, etc.).

3. Relevant prior education equivalent to KSU programs for certification to teach in elementary or secondary schools.


Additional Requirements for International Students:
Competence in English sufficient to teach individuals with Language difficulties (TOEFL score of 550 or higher on the paper exam, 250 on the computer exam, and 79/80 on the internet based exam).

Application Deadlines:
Applications can be received at any time. However, deadline dates have been established for the Office of Graduate Studies to receive the application to provide sufficient time for the receipt of all support documents and transcripts, faculty review of the application, notification of admission, and advising by the faculty advisor before actual enrollment. For the intended semester of first enrollment, send the completed application by the date identified.
